Google rolls out new search result page that AOL discarded.

It displays the usual results + on the right side of the page it lists the videos related to the search query. This idea was initially designed & used by AOL.

Adobe Flash Lite

Adobe Launches Flash Lite 3.

I know am bit late to write down on this topic, but still "Better late than never" ;)

Adobe releases the new Flash Lite version 3 to deploy content for mobile devices.

Flash Lite 3 allows mobile device manufacturers, operators and content providers to differentiate their offerings by giving users the ability to watch Flash Player compatible video, the world's most popular video format, and browse Flash enabled Web sites when integrated with a mobile Web browser. Both NTT DoCoMo and Nokia committed to deliver Flash.

Adobe Flash Lite runs on multiple platforms, including S60 on Symbian OS, second and third edition, Qualcomm® BREW® 2.x/3.x and Microsoft® Windows® Mobile® 5, in addition to embedded operating systems on a variety of OEM platforms. This allows consistent content delivery across device types, broader distribution and simpler publishing, testing and selling of Flash Lite content for developers. Available to operators and OEMs, customers can find out which devices support Flash Lite today at www.adobe.com/mobile/supported_devices .

Chat = Gtalk + AIM

A pretty exciting news, its the launch of AOL AIM chat integration in Gmail.



Which will enable user to sign into their AIM account and chat with their AIM buddies right inside Gmail. When logged in to AIM through Gmail chat, all AOL buddies will appear in the chat list with friends from the Google Talk network, the AIM buddies will be shown in the traditional yellow "running man" logo to the right of the screen names.

Finally two network giants shake hands to chat :)
Its always good to have all our friends under a single umbrella, how funatic :)

Thermo- Adobe

"Thermo" an upcoming Adobe product, is a design tool to create rich Internet application UIs.

Features as mentioned @ Adobe labs.

* Use drawing tools to create original graphics, wireframe an application design, or manipulate artwork imported from Adobe Creative Suite tools.
* Turn artwork from Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Fireworks directly into functional components that use the original artwork as a “skin”.
* Define and wire up interactive behavior, such as what to do when a user clicks on something, without having to write code.
* Easily design UIs that work with dynamic data, such as a list of contacts or product information, without having access to the actual data source. Design-time sample data can be used as a realistic placeholder when laying out an application, testing interactivity, and choreographing motion.

Applications created in Thermo are Flex applications that can be loaded directly into Flex Builder, providing a great roundtrip workflow for designers collaborating with developers. The designer's work can be incorporated directly into the production application with no loss of fidelity, and designers can continue to refine the design throughout the iterative development process.

Adobe & Yahoo Dynamic Ads

Adobe and Yahoo plan to launch an ad service allowing publishers to insert advertisements into online newsletters or edocs.

This new service allows publishers to generate revenue by including contextual, text-based ads next to Adobe PDF content, with Yahoo! providing access to its extensive network of advertisers to match a broad range of subject matter. For advertisers, Ads for Adobe PDF Powered by Yahoo! extends reach by delivering advertising across a new channel of content, while also providing the ability to track advertising performance, just as they can today with ads placed on Web sites.

How it Works

To join the program, publishers must register online, and then simply upload their Adobe PDF content so that it can be ad-enabled before distributing PDFs as they do today. Ads can only be displayed within Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat, in a panel adjacent to the content so that they do not disrupt the viewing experience. Every time the PDF content is viewed, contextual ads are dynamically matched to the content of the document. The publisher can then monitor performance through detailed reports. Publishers already committed to participating in the Ads for Adobe PDF Powered by Yahoo! beta program include: IDG InfoWorld, Wired, Pearson’s Education, Meredith Corporation, Reed Elsevier and many more.

“Since moving to a Web-only format earlier this year, we at InfoWorld have been able to apply a laser focus to cutting-edge solutions for the electronic distribution of our content,” said Allen Fear, director of Online Content at InfoWorld. “The unique combination of Adobe PDF and Yahoo! ads presents a new way of generating revenue from many of our existing products. We are excited about the opportunity to work with Adobe and Yahoo! on what we believe is a solution that significantly enhances the value of PDF distribution.”

Adobe Share

Adobe has announced their latest online offering codenamed "Share", a free web-based service that allows you to easily share, publish and organize your documents.

With Share you can:

* Send documents without email attachments.
* Access your documents from anywhere.
* View all the documents you have shared or received in one place.
* Post a link to your document on a wiki or blog.
* Embed a Flash® preview of your document on any website.
* Limit access to a document to a list of recipients.

This is still in beta at the moment.
FYI, to access/share the doc's you need to have a Adobe id.

India's Hydrogen Car

Tata Motors and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) are teamed up for the India’s first hydrogen-fuelled vehicle.

A mini-bus is scheduled to debut in 2009. A car is lined up for the next in line.

“We have been successful in adapting the system for a bus or car engine and are fine-tuning it. The vehicle will be ready in two years. It will emit only water vapour and will not pollute the environment,” ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair told DNA.

Water vapour emission? wow!! Praying hard for a pollution free world.

Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project

The Open Handset Alliance, a group of more than 30 technology and mobile companies, is developing Android: the first complete, open, and free mobile platform.



The Android platform is a software stack for mobile devices including an operating system, middleware and key applications. Developers can create applications for the platform using the Android SDK. Applications are written using the Java programming language and run on Dalvik, a custom virtual machine designed for embedded use which runs on top of a Linux kernel.

Google announces the new social networking initiative "OpenSocial".

It is a set of common APIs that application developers can use to create applications that work on any social networks who join hands with Google.

OpenSocial is a set of three common APIs to access core functions and information at social networks:

== > Profile Information (member data, like interests, place, hobbies, etc.)
== > Friends Information (social network)
== > Activities (day today things that happen, like News Feed)

Sure, this may address the difficulties that developers are facing to deploy the widgets on Facebook. The main issue with the Facebook is the limitations with their own FBML (Facebook markup language).

Google has collaborated with some of the key Facebook app companies Flikster, iLike, Rock You & Slide to work with them on OpenSocial.

Facebook Valued at 15 BILLION Dollars

Microsoft has invested $240 million in Facebook at a valuation of $15 billion and gets the rights to sell third-party ads on the Facebook network. It is 1.6 percent stake.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg must be on cloud nine now :)

Google lost their battle to Microsoft in getting rights to acquire this percent of stake. Earlier in 2006, Terry Semel then the CEO of Yahoo, tried to buy Facebook for $1billion, but it was turned down by Zuckerburg.

Adobe is coming up with yet another amazing product AMP!



Adobe Media Player (AMP) is a desktop version of media player to deliver online & offline rich video content.

It is built on FMS(Flash Media Server), AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime) and other content protection technologies.

I just downloaded it from Adobe labs and it looks pretty neat. Easy to use!

U need to have AIR runtime installed in your system to use this player.

AOL Top100 Desktop Widget

Wow, another widget! but this is for desktop from AOL. You can browse 100 videos with a cool UI, ofcourse sans browsers :)

It is built in AS3 & AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime) formerly Apollo.
The widget was screened at the Adobe AIR beta2 launch at Chicago.

Indian youths happiest in world

Young middle-class Indians are the happiest people of all and much more satisfied with all aspects of their lives compared to other nationalities, according to a new global survey by Swedish research and consulting firm Kairos Future.

Further, work comes as top priority for Indian youth, followed by a good career and higher-status. In contrast, for those in Europe, a good living environment comes on top and above all work-related aspects, Kairos Future said.

"Indian youth are also strikingly more optimistic about their own future and also about the future of society. The general picture in other countries is that young people tend to be personal optimists but societal pessimists," according to Kairos Future Group CEO and founder Mats Lindgren.

AOL Top Web Site Under New Ranking

Nielsen/NetRatings plans to drop its old methods of counting pageviews to gauge Web site popularity, instead opting for a system where it would measure how long a user stays on a site.

Using this method will shake up Web rankings quite a bit. For example, under the old system, AOL was sixth in pageviews. However, using the new system, it is number one with 25 billion minutes spent on its pages in May. The opposite happens to Google which drops to fifth from third using the new method.
